Smile Home – Lumiere Luxury stay view & infinity pool in Thao Dien
I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name Smile Home – Lumiere Luxury stay view & infinity pool in Thao Dien, I thought it sounded a bit over the top. But after spending a few days there, I get why they went with such a descriptive name. This five-star property really does deliver on every promise packed into that lengthy title.
The location on Xa Lộ Hà Nội is actually perfect if you know Ho Chi Minh City at all. You’re right in the heart of Thao Dien, which honestly feels like a completely different world from the chaos of District 1. I mean, you can still hear the occasional motorbike convoy, but it’s more of a gentle hum than the usual urban symphony. The neighborhood has this expat-heavy vibe with trendy cafes and international restaurants within walking distance – I grabbed some incredible banh mi from a little spot just two blocks down that the front desk recommended.
What really sets this place apart though is that infinity pool. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels with nice pools, but this one actually made me want to wake up early just to have it to myself before other guests arrived. The view stretches out over the Saigon River, and honestly, watching the sunrise while floating there with a Vietnamese coffee nearby was one of those moments that reminded me why I love traveling. The pool area stays pretty quiet even during peak hours – maybe it’s because the hotel keeps occupancy reasonable, or maybe other guests were just as content to lounge peacefully as I was. The staff keeps fresh towels stocked without being intrusive about it, which I appreciated.
The rooms themselves have this modern luxury thing down pat without feeling sterile. My suite had floor-to-ceiling windows that actually opened (you’d be surprised how rare that is in newer hotels), so I could let in some of that tropical air when the AC got too aggressive. The bed was properly comfortable – firm enough that I didn’t wake up sore, soft enough that I didn’t want to leave it. Little touches like the rainfall shower and the fact that they stock local tea alongside the usual international brands showed me someone actually thought about the guest experience rather than just checking boxes.
You know what impressed me most? The level of service felt personal without being overwhelming. The concierge helped me navigate getting a Grab to the airport at 5 AM without making it feel like a huge inconvenience, and housekeeping somehow managed to clean around my scattered belongings without disturbing my organized chaos. It’s that kind of place where the 8.6 rating makes perfect sense – everything works smoothly, but it doesn’t feel soulless or overly polished.
If you’re planning to stay in Ho Chi Minh City and want something that feels like a proper retreat from the beautiful madness of the city, this is worth the splurge. Thao Dien gives you easy access to downtown when you want it, but also lets you decompress in what feels like a much more relaxed corner of the city. Just don’t blame me when you find yourself extending your stay an extra night because leaving that pool view feels impossible.
