Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Ho Chi Minh City over the years, but Downtown Central – SOHO ESSENCE honestly caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know how District 1 can feel overwhelming with all the motorbike chaos and tourist traps? Well, this five-star spot on Cô Giang Street sits right in the thick of it but somehow manages to feel like a peaceful retreat once you step inside.
The thing that struck me first was actually the lobby – it’s got this modern minimalist vibe that doesn’t scream “look at me” like some of the flashier hotels around Ben Thanh Market. The staff genuinely seemed to know what they were doing during check-in, which I mean, sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that can be. My room on the eighth floor had this view that looked out over the organized chaos of Ho Chi Minh City, and honestly, I could’ve watched the street life for hours. The air conditioning was properly cold (crucial in that humidity), and the bed was one of those where you actually sleep through the night despite being in the middle of one of Asia’s busiest cities.
What I really appreciated was the location – you’re literally a five-minute walk from all the main sights like the Opera House and Saigon Central Post Office, but Cô Giang itself is just residential enough that you’re not dealing with constant tour groups outside your window. I discovered this tiny coffee shop around the corner that served the best cà phê sữa đá I had during my entire trip, and the hotel concierge actually knew about it when I mentioned it. The breakfast spread was solid too – they had proper Vietnamese options alongside the usual international stuff, and the phở was surprisingly authentic for a hotel restaurant. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re renting a motorbike (most people just leave them at the guarded spots nearby), but honestly, with grab bikes everywhere, you probably don’t need your own wheels anyway. The pool area on the roof is small but perfect for cooling off in the afternoons, and the evening views are pretty spectacular when the city lights start coming on. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s one of those places that gets the balance right between luxury and actually feeling connected to where you are.

"It served its purpose for a short stay"
Everything was functional, if not stylish. It is suitable for travelers who prioritize location and don’t mind a more basic setup. The host was nice!

"A cozy nest close to Nguyen Hue street"
Comfortable queen-sized bed with soft linens; Check-in was seamless and the host was attentive; Air conditioning worked great during hot afternoons. The bathroom door was a little squeaky.

"Great location with a helpful host"
We were happy to have a small balcony overlooking the street – ideal for morning coffee ☕. The host gave us great local food tips, and we had amazing phở nearby 🍜. Only downside: a few ants showed up around the kitchen area.
What could be improved: Nothing

"Exceptional"
I really appreciated the peaceful ambiance inside the apartment, especially after long days out in the busy city. I especially loved walking along the Saigon River in the evening — it’s just a short stroll from the apartment. There was a cute coffee shop across the street where I started each morning with a cà phê sữa đá. The bed was super comfy with fresh linens — I slept really well every night. There were many convenience stores around the corner, which was very handy for picking up snacks or essentials.

"Central and comfortable stay"
The apartment was spotless with a fully equipped kitchen and a washer – super convenient for our 5-day trip 🧼. The location was perfect for exploring Ben Thanh Market and strolling along Nguyen Hue walking street 🌇.
What could be improved: The only issue was a few ants near the sink area, but nothing major.

"Loved the attention to detail"
You could tell someone put effort into decorating — not just another generic Airbnb. There was even a little welcome note and a list of recommended food spots nearby. There was a tiny trail of ants one morning, but they disappeared quickly.

"Great Stay, Even Greater Food"
The apartment was everything I needed: clean, modern, and in a fantastic location. I found the best Banh Xeo (Vietnamese pancakes) just around the corner. Honestly, I booked this place for the convenience, but was blown away by how well-equipped it was. From the fridge to the hot water pressure, everything worked perfectly. I even had a small desk to journal my trip every night. I would recommend it to anyone who loves food and exploring on foot!

"No-frills comfort"
It’s not luxury, but you need clean, functional, and central. The host was friendly and gave quick replies. I’d book again for a short trip.

"Peaceful Escape from the Buzz"
Though the apartment is in the middle of District 1, it's quiet and calm once you close the door. I spent hours reading on the couch with a fan on and music playing. The space was spotless but straightforward. The host responded within minutes when I asked for extra garbage bags. A noodle shop across the street opens till midnight—lifesaver! I recommend this place to anyone looking for a clean and easy stay.
