I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to River Panorama – Free Gym & Sauna & Pool on Lê Thị Chợ street, I wasn’t expecting much from District 7. You know how it is with some of the newer areas in Ho Chi Minh City, they can feel a bit sterile sometimes. But this four-star place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about staying here is that you’re right in the heart of what locals call the “new Saigon” – and I mean that as a compliment. District 7 has this interesting mix of expat families and young Vietnamese professionals, so there’s actually a pretty cool vibe once you settle in. The hotel sits close enough to the Saigon River that you can catch glimpses of it from some rooms (ask for a higher floor if that matters to you), and honestly, the whole area feels more spacious than the cramped quarters you’ll find in District 1. What really sold me on this place though was how they’ve nailed the amenities without being pretentious about it. The pool area is genuinely relaxing – not huge, but clean and usually quiet during weekday mornings when the business travelers are off doing their thing. The gym is better equipped than I expected, nothing fancy but it has what you need if you’re trying to stick to your routine. And that sauna? Perfect after spending a day walking around in Ho Chi Minh’s humidity, which can honestly drain you more than you think it will.

Here’s what I wish someone had told me before I stayed there: the breakfast is solid but not spectacular, parking is actually pretty easy (a big deal in this city), and the staff genuinely seems to care about helping you figure out the neighborhood. They’ll point you toward the good local spots instead of just the tourist traps – there’s this incredible bánh xèo place about ten minutes walk away that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms themselves are modern and clean, though the soundproofing between rooms could be better if you’re a light sleeper. I mean, it’s not terrible, but you might hear your neighbors if they’re having a loud phone call. The location really grows on you too – you’re close enough to catch a quick taxi to the Ben Thanh Market area when you want that classic Saigon experience, but far enough away that you can actually get some peace and quiet when you need it. Plus, there’s a decent coffee shop right downstairs, and if you’re like me and need that caffeine hit before facing the day, that’s worth its weight in gold.
