The Sun Avenue 2BR Sunset View Apt, 10 mins to D1
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about The Sun Avenue 2BR Sunset View Apt, 10 mins to D1, I was a bit skeptical about the whole “sunset view” thing. I mean, you know how these apartment listings can oversell, right? But honestly, this place completely surprised me when I stayed there last month.
The location on Mai Chí Thọ is actually pretty smart – you’re far enough from the chaos of District 1 to get some peace (and trust me, you’ll appreciate that after dealing with the motorbike symphony downtown), but close enough that a quick Grab ride gets you to Ben Thanh Market or the Saigon Skydeck in about 15 minutes, depending on traffic. The building itself is one of those modern high-rises that’s been popping up around Ho Chi Minh City, and while it might look a bit corporate from the outside, the apartment on the 16th floor has this surprisingly warm, lived-in feeling. The two bedrooms are spacious enough that you won’t feel like you’re bumping into each other – which is saying something, because Vietnamese apartments can be… well, let’s just say compact. What really got me though was stepping out onto that balcony around 6 PM. The sunset actually delivers on the promise, painting the sky in these incredible oranges and pinks that reflect off the Saigon River in the distance. I found myself just sitting there with a beer from the well-stocked fridge, watching the city transition from day to night.
The apartment feels properly four-star without being stuffy about it – the kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook (though honestly, with street food this good and cheap, why would you?), the Wi-Fi is fast enough for video calls back home, and the air conditioning works like a dream. That last part is crucial, trust me. The building’s got decent security, which gave me peace of mind when I was out exploring, and the elevator… well, it’s not the fastest, but it beats walking up 16 floors. One thing I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – you’re high enough that the street noise becomes this gentle urban hum rather than the full-on sensory assault you get at ground level. The shower has proper water pressure too, which might sound trivial until you’ve had a few lukewarm dribbles at other places around the city. I mean, the whole setup just works – it’s like someone actually thought about what travelers need rather than just throwing together whatever was cheapest. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the building’s entrance can be a bit tricky to find the first time (it’s tucked back from the main road), but once you know where it is, you’re golden. If you’re planning to spend a week or so in the area and want somewhere that feels more like a temporary home than just another hotel room, this place really hits the sweet spot.
