Holiday Inn & Suites Saigon Airport, an IHG Hotel
You know what really struck me about Holiday Inn & Suites Saigon Airport, an IHG Hotel? It’s one of those rare airport hotels that actually feels like a destination rather than just a layover necessity. I mean, when you’re dealing with those brutal connecting flights through Ho Chi Minh City, most places near Tan Son Nhat are pretty forgettable – but this five-star property genuinely surprised me.
The thing is, being this close to the airport (honestly, maybe a three-minute drive), you’d expect constant jet noise, but the soundproofing here is incredible. I was in a room facing the runway side and barely heard anything, which was a relief since my flight got delayed and I ended up staying an extra night. The rooms themselves have that fresh, modern IHG feel – clean lines, decent work space, and the bed was actually comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the pillows all night. What I really appreciated were the small touches: proper blackout curtains (essential when you’re trying to reset your internal clock), multiple charging ports that actually work, and a bathroom with enough counter space for all your travel gear.
The staff here really knows their stuff when it comes to flight schedules and getting around Saigon – they’ll sort out your shuttle timing without you even asking, and the front desk folks seem genuinely plugged into what’s happening with delays and gate changes. I watched them help this frazzled family rebook their entire itinerary when Vietnam Airlines had one of those cascading delay situations. The pool area is surprisingly nice for an airport hotel too, sort of tucked away from the main building with decent city views. I wouldn’t say it’s Instagram-worthy or anything, but after being cramped in economy for twelve hours, floating around for thirty minutes felt pretty good. The restaurant serves solid Vietnamese food alongside the usual international stuff – I had this really good pho that didn’t taste like it came from a hotel kitchen, if you know what I mean. Breakfast is extensive, though it gets absolutely slammed between 6 and 8 AM when everyone’s trying to make their morning flights, so either go early or be patient. One small thing that bugged me was the elevator situation during peak times – there are only two serving the main floors, and when you’ve got heavy luggage and a tight connection, waiting five minutes feels like forever. But honestly, for what this place delivers in terms of comfort and convenience, especially at this level of service quality, it’s become my go-to whenever I’m connecting through Vietnam.
Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City booking should be done early, especially during peak tourist season when the city hosts internationally celebrated cultural events and festivals in District 1 and other iconic locations.
