You know what surprised me most about Căn Hộ Cường Ánh? How quiet it actually is despite being right on Trần Thị Năm street in District 12. I mean, this isn’t exactly the tourist center of Ho Chi Minh City – it’s more where locals actually live and work – but that’s honestly what I loved about it. The apartment-style setup gives you this authentic slice of Vietnamese life that you just don’t get in those sterile hotel towers downtown.
The building itself is pretty typical for the area, nothing fancy from the outside, but once you’re inside your unit, it’s clear someone put real thought into making this work for travelers. The kitchen actually has everything you need (and I mean everything – down to proper coffee filters), which was perfect since there’s this incredible local market just a few blocks away where you can grab fresh ingredients for practically nothing. The four-star rating feels about right – it’s definitely comfortable and well-maintained, though don’t expect marble lobbies or concierge service. What you get instead is space to breathe and a washer that actually works properly, which honestly matters more after a few weeks on the road.
Getting around from here is easier than you’d think – there’s a bus stop right outside that connects to the city center, and Grab drivers know the address well. The neighborhood has this great energy during the day with all the local businesses and street food vendors, but it settles down nicely in the evenings. I actually ended up extending my stay because I got attached to the morning routine of grabbing bánh mì from the lady downstairs and watching District 12 wake up from the balcony. The host responds quickly to messages too, which saved me when I couldn’t figure out the air conditioning remote (it’s all in Vietnamese, obviously). If you’re looking for something more authentic than the backpacker district but still want proper amenities and that 8.9 rating comfort level, this place hits the sweet spot perfectly.
Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City booking should be done early, especially during peak tourist season when the city hosts internationally celebrated cultural events and festivals in District 1 and other iconic locations.
