Saigon Downtown – Rivergate Residence
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Saigon Downtown – Rivergate Residence, I wasn’t sure what to expect from an officetel setup, but this place completely changed my mind about serviced apartments. Located right on Bến Vân Đồn street in District 1, you’re literally in the heart of everything that matters in Ho Chi Minh City. I mean, step outside and you’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the iconic Bitexco Tower, and the Ben Thanh Market chaos is close enough that you can hear the motorbike symphony but far enough that you actually get some sleep.
What really impressed me about this four-star property is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between hotel service and apartment living. The units are genuinely spacious – and I don’t mean “spacious for Asia” spacious, I mean actually roomy with proper kitchenettes that you’d use. The riverside location means some rooms get these incredible Saigon River views, especially if you time it right during sunset when the whole city lights up. You know what’s clever? They’ve got this whole residence vibe going where you don’t feel like you’re camping out in a hotel room, but you still get housekeeping and a proper front desk when you need help navigating the city. The building itself feels modern without being sterile – there’s actually character to the place, which honestly surprised me given how new everything looked.
The neighborhood situation is pretty perfect, actually. Phường 6 isn’t as touristy as some other parts of District 1, so you get more authentic street food around the corner (there’s this bánh mì lady who sets up every morning that locals line up for), but you’re still walking distance from all the expat bars and fancy rooftop spots when you want them. Grab and motorbike taxis find you easily here, and if you’re brave enough to rent a scooter, the location gives you quick access to both the backpacker area and the more upscale Dong Khoi shopping district. One thing I particularly appreciated – the Wi-Fi actually works consistently, which isn’t always a given, and the air conditioning keeps up with Ho Chi Minh City’s relentless humidity. The staff genuinely seems to know the area well, not just the tourist trap recommendations, so they’re worth chatting with about where to eat or how to avoid the worst traffic snarls. It’s the kind of place where you could easily settle in for a week or longer without feeling like you’re living out of a suitcase.
You need to let the property know what time you'll be arriving in advance.
