I’ll be honest, when I first heard the name The River Home, I was expecting something a bit more… rustic? But this four-star property actually surprised me in the best way. The moment you walk into the lobby, there’s this immediate sense of calm that washes over you – and I mean that literally, because you can actually hear the gentle sound of water flowing somewhere in the background. It’s subtle, not one of those obnoxious artificial waterfall situations you sometimes get in hotels trying too hard to be zen.
What really got me about this place is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between polished and homey. The rooms have this warm, lived-in feel without being shabby – think quality linens that actually feel expensive, not just look it, and furniture that seems like it was chosen by someone with actual taste rather than a bulk purchasing department. The staff genuinely seems to care too, which you know isn’t always a given these days. During my stay, the front desk manager (I think her name was Sarah?) remembered I’d mentioned needing an early checkout and proactively had my bill ready the night before. Small thing, but it’s those details that stick with you.
Now, I won’t pretend it’s perfect – the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty in some of the riverside rooms, and honestly, if you’re someone who needs absolute silence to sleep, you might want to request a room away from the water side because there’s a gentle but constant sound of the current. Personally, I found it soothing, but my travel companion needed to run the white noise app on her phone the first night. The breakfast situation is solid though – not a massive buffet spread, but everything they do offer is actually good quality. Their coffee alone made getting up early worth it, and I’m usually more of a “don’t talk to me before 9 AM” person. If you’re planning to visit during peak season, definitely book ahead because this isn’t one of those massive chain properties with hundreds of rooms to spare. It’s got more of an intimate vibe, which I loved, but it does mean they fill up fast when word gets out about places like this.
