The L’anmien Saigon District 3 by Tan Dinh Church
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to The L’anmien Saigon District 3 by Tan Dinh Church, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It’s tucked away on Trương Quyền 5, which is basically a quiet side street that most tourists never find, and that’s actually part of its charm. You know what caught my attention immediately? The pink Tan Dinh Church literally across the street – I mean, you can’t miss this Gothic Revival beauty from your window, and it creates this interesting old-meets-new vibe that somehow works perfectly in Ho Chi Minh City.
This three-star spot doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which I really appreciated. The lobby has this clean, modern feel without being sterile, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to help rather than just going through the motions. My room was on the fourth floor (there’s an elevator, thank goodness), and honestly, the view of the church at sunrise was something I didn’t expect from a hotel in this price range. The rooms themselves are well-thought-out – not huge, but cleverly designed with enough space to actually unpack without living out of your suitcase. The shower has proper water pressure, which anyone who’s traveled through Southeast Asia will tell you isn’t always guaranteed, even at pricier places.
What really won me over was the location itself. District 3 feels like the real Saigon without the tourist chaos of District 1, but you’re still only a quick taxi ride or motorbike trip away from Ben Thanh Market or the War Remnants Museum. There’s this fantastic local coffee shop about two blocks down where I’d grab my morning cà phê sữa đá – the kind of place where you’ll be the only foreigner, which is exactly what you want. The neighborhood gets busy during morning and evening rush hours (you’ll hear the motorbikes), but it settles into this peaceful rhythm the rest of the day. I actually enjoyed sitting by the window in the evening, watching the church light up while the street vendors set up their dinner stalls below. The hotel itself stays quiet – good soundproofing, I guess, because even with all that street life, I slept well every night. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense.
