I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to The Horizon Hồ Bán Nguyệt, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from this spot tucked away on Trần Văn Trà street in District 7. The name literally means “Crescent Lake” in Vietnamese, which gives you a hint about the setting, but nothing quite prepares you for how this four-star property actually sits right along the Saigon River with these sweeping water views that change completely depending on the time of day.
What struck me most was how different District 7 feels from the chaos of District 1 – you’re still very much in Ho Chi Minh City, but there’s this more residential, almost suburban vibe here that a lot of travelers miss. The hotel itself has this modern Vietnamese aesthetic that doesn’t try too hard, you know? Clean lines, lots of natural light, and honestly some of the most comfortable beds I’ve encountered in the city. The staff seem genuinely happy to be there, which isn’t always a given, and they actually remember your name after the first day (small thing, but it matters). I mean, with an 8.7 rating, you’d hope for decent service, but they go a bit beyond just decent.
The location is actually pretty smart if you think about it – you’re away from the tourist madness of the central districts, but the Nguyen Van Linh expressway is right there, so getting to District 1 takes maybe 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. There’s a decent coffee shop called Highlands Coffee just a five-minute walk away, and honestly, some mornings I preferred grabbing my caffeine fix there instead of the hotel restaurant, just to feel a bit more like a local. The river breeze in the evenings is something else – you can actually sit on their terrace area and watch the city lights reflect on the water without feeling like you’re in the middle of a construction zone. Parking was never an issue (which anyone who’s driven in HCMC will appreciate), and the rooms on the river side are worth the small upgrade if you can swing it. Just be aware that weekends can get a bit busier with local families, but that’s part of the charm really – you get to see how Vietnamese families vacation, which is pretty delightful.
You need to let the property know what time you'll be arriving in advance.
