SOHO Apartments – City Central, 10mins to BenThanh Market, BuiVien Street
I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name SOHO Apartments – City Central, 10mins to BenThanh Market, BuiVien Street, I thought it was trying way too hard to cram every selling point into the title. But you know what? After staying there, I actually get it. The location really is that good, and sometimes being upfront about it just makes sense.
The thing about this four-star place is that it sits in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to all the action but not drowning in it. When they say 10 minutes to Ben Thanh Market, they mean it – I timed it at about 8 minutes walking at a normal pace, maybe 12 if you’re stopping to look at the street food stalls along the way (which, let’s face it, you will). And Bui Vien Street? Well, that’s your classic backpacker strip with all the bars and late-night energy, but here’s the genius part – you’re close enough to pop over when you want that scene, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the noise and chaos when you’re trying to sleep. The apartments themselves feel more like actual living spaces than hotel rooms, which I mean in the best way possible. There’s this lived-in quality that makes you settle in faster, and the kitchenettes are actually functional – not just a mini-fridge and a sad hotplate situation.
What really sold me on the place was the little details that show someone actually thought about how people live, not just how they sleep for a night. The Wi-Fi doesn’t mysteriously cut out every two hours, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing, and honestly, the beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress all night. The staff has this relaxed competence about them – they know the neighborhood inside and out, so when you ask about getting somewhere or finding something specific, you get real directions, not just “take taxi, very easy.” I remember asking about a good place for bánh mì that wasn’t tourist-priced, and the guy at the front desk drew me a little map to this spot about three blocks away that became my daily breakfast ritual. It’s those moments that make you feel like you’re getting an insider’s view of Ho Chi Minh City rather than just hitting the obvious tourist checkboxes. The whole experience feels less like staying at a hotel and more like temporarily living in the city, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to actually experience a place rather than just pass through it.
