The Cafe Apartment building – 6even
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about The Cafe Apartment building – 6even, I thought it was just another trendy spot trying too hard to be cool. But walking up to this place on Nguyễn Huệ Street, I actually got it. You know that famous apartment building that’s become this Instagram sensation because it’s packed with little cafes on every floor? Well, this hotel is right there in the mix, and it’s way more thoughtful than I expected.
The whole concept is pretty brilliant when you think about it. You’re staying in what’s essentially become Ho Chi Minh City’s most photogenic building, but instead of just riding on the novelty, they’ve put together a proper four-star experience. The rooms are compact – I mean, we’re talking about converted apartment spaces here – but they’ve maximized every inch smartly. The design feels authentically local without being kitschy, if that makes sense. You get these great industrial touches mixed with Vietnamese elements, and honestly, the attention to detail surprised me. The bathrooms are small but well-designed, and the beds are actually comfortable, which isn’t always a given in boutique places like this.
What really sets it apart though is the location within the building itself. You can literally step out of your room and explore different cafes on various floors – each one has its own vibe, from minimalist coffee spots to plants-everywhere jungle cafes. It’s like having a vertical neighborhood right outside your door. And being on Nguyễn Huệ means you’re walking distance from basically everything that matters in District 1. The night market, the opera house, all those rooftop bars – you can stumble back home easily, which I definitely appreciated after a few too many bia hơis. The street can get busy during the day with all the tourists coming to check out the building, but it actually quiets down nicely in the evenings. The elevator situation can be a bit chaotic when the building’s busy – you’re sharing with cafe customers and other visitors – but the staff manages it well and honestly, it adds to the whole experience. I stayed there during a particularly humid week in March, and the air conditioning worked perfectly, which isn’t something I take for granted anymore after some questionable experiences in the region. The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s one of those places that just works better than you’d expect it to.
