Studio with balcony near Hong Bang University, Bình Thạnh
First Impressions
The Studio with balcony near Hong Bang University, Bình Thạnh caught me off guard in the best way possible. I mean, you’re not expecting much from a three-star place tucked away on Điện Biên Phủ street, but this little studio actually delivers something special. The building itself is pretty typical for the area — nothing fancy from the outside — but once you step into the unit, there’s this immediate sense that someone really thought about how to make a small space work.
The Space and That Balcony
The room is compact but honestly, it’s laid out so well that you don’t feel cramped at all. What really sold me was the balcony — and I know that sounds simple, but in Ho Chi Minh City, having your own little outdoor space is actually pretty rare at this price point. You can sit out there in the evenings with a coffee or beer and just watch the neighborhood come alive. The studio has everything you need: a decent bed, a small kitchenette area (though don’t expect to cook elaborate meals), and surprisingly good air conditioning that actually keeps up with the heat.
Location Perks
Being near Hong Bang University means you’re in Bình Thạnh district, which honestly feels more authentic than staying right in District 1. The street food around here is incredible — there’s this bánh mì lady about two blocks away who makes the best sandwiches I’ve had in the city. You’re also close enough to the Saigon River that you can walk there in about ten minutes, and the whole area has this nice mix of local life and student energy. Getting to the main tourist areas takes maybe 15-20 minutes by taxi or Grab, which isn’t bad at all.
Practical Stuff
The building has decent security, and the host was actually really responsive when I had questions. There’s a small convenience store right downstairs, which saved me multiple times when I needed water or snacks. The Wi-Fi works well — I was able to work from the studio without any issues. One thing to note is that parking can be a bit tricky if you’re renting a motorbike, but there are spots nearby, and the host can point you in the right direction.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to blow your mind with fancy amenities, but it does exactly what it promises. The 8.8 rating makes sense when you consider the value — you get a clean, comfortable space with that bonus balcony, in a neighborhood that feels genuinely Vietnamese rather than touristy. Couples seem to really appreciate the privacy and the fact that you can actually relax here rather than just crash between sightseeing sessions. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself staying an extra night just because it feels like a proper little home base rather than just another hotel room.
