SOHO D1 – near Bui Vien , Ben Thanh market 1km
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name SOHO D1 – near Bui Vien , Ben Thanh market 1km, I thought it was going to be one of those places that tries too hard to sound trendy. But you know what? After spending a few nights there, I actually get why they named it that way. This four-star spot really does have that boutique vibe going for it, and the location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things in Ho Chi Minh City.
The thing about staying here is that you’re literally a short walk from all the chaos of Bui Vien Street – I mean, you can hear the energy from your room on weekends, but it’s not so close that you can’t sleep (well, most nights anyway). What I loved is that you can stumble back from the backpacker madness in about five minutes, but during the day, the hotel itself feels surprisingly calm. The staff actually knows what they’re doing too, which honestly surprised me given how hectic this part of the city can get. They helped me figure out the best times to hit Ben Thanh Market – apparently if you go around 7 AM, you get to see all the vendors setting up and the prices are way more reasonable before the tour groups arrive.
The rooms themselves are clean and modern, nothing too fancy but everything works properly (and trust me, that’s not always a given around here). Air conditioning is solid, which you’ll definitely need, and the Wi-Fi actually reaches the rooms on higher floors – learned that the hard way at my last place. What really sold me though was how easy it made exploring the city. You’ve got the market for all your souvenir shopping and street food adventures, then when you want to experience the nightlife scene, Bui Vien is right there with all its bars and restaurants. But here’s the thing locals know – if you walk just two blocks in the other direction, you hit some incredible pho places that tourists never find because they’re too busy following their guidebooks to the obvious spots. The hotel staff pointed me toward this one place that doesn’t even have a sign in English, but honestly serves the best bun bo hue I had during my entire trip. I mean, that kind of insider knowledge is worth the stay alone, right?
