Smile Home – SOHO Apartment balcony – Modern comfortable
I’ll be honest, when I first heard the name Smile Home – SOHO Apartment balcony – Modern comfortable, I thought it sounded a bit over-the-top – you know how some places try too hard with their names. But actually walking into this place on Cô Giang street completely changed my mind. This four-star apartment-style accommodation sits right in the heart of District 1, and I mean really in the heart of it – you’re basically a five-minute walk from Ben Thanh Market and all that chaos, but somehow the actual street feels surprisingly quiet for Ho Chi Minh City.
What struck me most was how they’ve managed to create this modern, almost minimalist vibe while still feeling homey. The balcony they mention in the name? It’s not huge, but it’s perfectly positioned to catch the morning light, and honestly, having that outdoor space in the middle of the city makes such a difference. I spent way more time out there with my coffee than I expected to. The apartment itself feels more spacious than typical hotel rooms – there’s actually room to spread out your stuff, which anyone who’s traveled through Vietnam’s hotel scene will appreciate. The kitchen area is small but functional; I didn’t cook elaborate meals or anything, but being able to grab fresh fruit from the street vendors and have a proper place to wash and store it was really nice.
Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to all the tourist stuff (the Opera House, Dong Khoi shopping area, those rooftop bars everyone talks about), but you’re also on a street where locals actually live and work. There’s this little coffee shop two doors down that doesn’t even have a sign – just plastic stools on the sidewalk – and they make better cà phê sữa đá than half the trendy places in Thao Dien. The building itself is pretty typical for the area, nothing fancy from the outside, but that’s kind of the point. You get the authentic neighborhood feel without sacrificing comfort. One thing to note though – like most places in District 1, it can get pretty humid, but the air conditioning works well and doesn’t sound like a jet engine, which I’ve definitely encountered elsewhere in the city. Check-in was smooth, and the host actually gave me useful local tips instead of just pointing me toward the obvious tourist traps. If you’re looking for that balance between being in the thick of things but still having a quiet place to retreat to, this spot really delivers on that promise.
