Sailing Apartment District 1
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Sailing Apartment District 1, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the name. But after spending a few days there, I get it now. This four-star place has this nautical vibe going on that actually works really well, especially given how close you are to the Saigon River.
The thing that struck me right away was how they’ve managed to make what’s essentially an apartment-style setup feel genuinely welcoming. You know how some places try too hard with the whole “home away from home” thing? This isn’t that. Instead, you get these spacious rooms that actually have character – I mean, proper living spaces with kitchenettes that you’d actually want to use, not just for show. The sailing theme runs through everything without being cheesy about it, which honestly surprised me. And with a 9.4 rating, I wasn’t the only one who felt this way.
What really sold me on the place was the location in District 1. You’re right in the thick of things without dealing with the absolute chaos of some of the busier streets. I could walk to Ben Thanh Market in about ten minutes, hit up Nguyen Hue Walking Street whenever I wanted, but still come back to something that felt like a quiet retreat. The staff – and this matters more than people think – actually seemed to know the neighborhood. They’d give you directions to the good pho place two blocks over (not the tourist trap everyone else recommends) or tell you which entrance to use for the Independence Palace to skip the crowds. Little things like that make a difference when you’re trying to get a feel for Ho Chi Minh City.
The rooms themselves are well thought out. Good water pressure in the shower – trust me, after a day of walking around in that humidity, this matters. The air conditioning actually works properly, and the beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress all night. There’s decent soundproofing too, which in District 1 is pretty crucial unless you want to hear every motorbike that goes by. I stayed on the fifth floor and barely heard the street noise, though you’ll still get the occasional wedding party or celebration drifting up from somewhere – but that’s just part of the experience of being in the city center.
You'll need to let the property know in advance what time you'll arrive.
