Royal Dragon Boutique Hotel Tan Binh
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Royal Dragon Boutique Hotel Tan Binh, the name made me think it might be one of those overly flashy places that’s all show and no substance. But you know what? I was pleasantly surprised when I actually stayed there. This three-star spot has this relaxed, unpretentious vibe that I really appreciated after dealing with the chaos of getting around the city.
The thing that struck me right away was how the staff genuinely seemed to care about making your stay work. I mean, it’s not like they’re rolling out red carpets or anything, but there’s this authentic warmth that you don’t always get at bigger chain hotels. The rooms are clean and thoughtfully put together – nothing fancy, but everything you need is there and it actually works (which, let’s face it, isn’t always a given). The beds are surprisingly comfortable too, and I’m pretty picky about that stuff. What I really liked was that they’ve managed to blend some traditional Vietnamese touches with modern conveniences without it feeling forced or touristy.
Location-wise, you’re in a part of the city that feels more like where actual people live and work, rather than just a tourist bubble. There are these great little coffee shops within walking distance where you can get proper Vietnamese coffee for a fraction of what you’d pay in the more central areas. The street food scene around there is fantastic too – I discovered this bánh mì place about two blocks away that honestly ruined me for bánh mì everywhere else. Getting to the airport is pretty straightforward from here, which is a huge plus if you’re dealing with early flights or heavy luggage. The neighborhood can get a bit busy during rush hours, but it settles down nicely in the evenings. I actually enjoyed sitting by the window watching the daily rhythm of the area – it felt authentic in a way that some of the more polished hotel districts don’t. With an 8.1 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and I can see why. It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be everything to everyone, but does what it does really well.
