Nu Apartment in The Opera Residence
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Nu Apartment in The Opera Residence, I wasn’t sure what to expect from an apartment-style stay in Thu Thiem. But walking into this place actually changed my whole perspective on where to stay when you’re in Ho Chi Minh City for more than just a quick business trip.
The thing that hits you right away is how this four-star setup feels more like borrowing a well-connected friend’s place than checking into a typical hotel. You’re in The Opera Residence building, which honestly took me a minute to find the first time – it’s part of The Metropole complex, and the signage could be clearer. But once you’re up there, the views across the Saigon River toward District 1 are pretty spectacular, especially in the evening when the city lights start reflecting off the water. The apartment itself has that clean, modern Vietnamese aesthetic – lots of natural light, decent kitchen setup if you actually want to cook (which I did a couple times), and the kind of space where you can spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase.
What really works about this location is that Thu Thiem used to feel completely cut off from the action, but now with the new bridge connections, you’re actually in a sweet spot. You get this quieter, more residential vibe – I mean, you can actually sleep past 6 AM without motorbike horns waking you up – but you’re still only about 15 minutes to the main tourist areas when you want to dive into the chaos. The building has solid security, which matters more than you might think, and there’s decent parking if you end up renting a motorbike. I spent a lot of evenings just walking around the neighborhood, checking out the local coffee spots and watching how this whole area is transforming from empty lots into actual communities. The staff managing the apartments are pretty responsive too – when my AC started making weird noises on day three, someone was up to fix it within a couple hours. You know what surprised me most? How quiet it gets at night, but in a good way, not in that isolated tourist bubble way some places feel.
