Eco SaiGon Apartments
I’ll be honest – when I first stumbled across Eco SaiGon Apartments, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the name alone. But after staying there twice now, I can tell you this four-star spot really gets the balance right between being eco-conscious and actually comfortable. You know how some “green” hotels make you feel like you’re roughing it? Not here.
The apartments themselves are surprisingly spacious, and I mean genuinely roomy – not that cramped hotel-room-with-a-kitchenette situation you sometimes get. The air conditioning works brilliantly (crucial in Saigon’s humidity), and they’ve got this clever water filtration system that actually tastes good, so you’re not constantly buying plastic bottles. The kitchenette is small but functional – I managed to make decent coffee every morning and even cooked a few simple meals. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays despite being in the middle of everything. I mean, you’ll still hear the city humming below, but it’s not the constant motorbike symphony that keeps you up in some places.
The staff genuinely seems to care about the sustainability angle without being preachy about it. They’ll give you tips on local markets where you can buy fresh ingredients, and they know which nearby restaurants use locally-sourced stuff if that’s your thing. Actually, the front desk guy – I think his name was Duc – gave me directions to this incredible pho place that definitely wasn’t in any guidebook. The whole building has this modern but warm feeling, lots of natural wood and plants everywhere that actually look healthy (you’d be surprised how many hotels have sad, dying greenery). There’s decent WiFi throughout, which matters if you’re trying to get work done, and the laundry service is reasonably priced and fast.
Location-wise, you’re close enough to walk to the main tourist areas but far enough that you feel like you’re seeing how people actually live in the city. I loved being able to grab breakfast from the street vendors right outside – there’s this woman who makes the most incredible banh mi, and she’s there every morning around 7 AM. The rating of 8.6 honestly feels about right – it’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtfully done and the value is solid. If you’re the type who wants to feel good about your environmental impact without sacrificing comfort, and you prefer having your own space rather than a traditional hotel room, this place makes a lot of sense.
