Camila Airport Hotel
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Camila Airport Hotel on Song Da street, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place in Tan Binh District. But you know what? This little spot actually surprised me in the best way possible. The thing about staying near Tan Son Nhat Airport is that most hotels in this area are either complete dumps or overpriced transit stops, but Camila manages to hit that sweet spot where you actually feel like you’re staying somewhere decent without breaking the bank.
The location is honestly pretty clever – Ward 2 in Tan Binh puts you close enough to the airport that you’re not stressed about early flights (I mean, you can literally hear planes taking off, but it’s not as bad as you’d think), yet you’re still in a proper neighborhood with actual Vietnamese life happening around you. I walked to a few local pho joints that morning, and let me tell you, the bun bo hue at the corner spot near the district office was incredible – definitely not tourist prices either. The staff at Camila seemed genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions like at some of those big chain places. When I needed directions to the War Remnants Museum, the front desk guy actually drew me a little map showing which bus routes to take instead of just pointing vaguely toward the street.
What really won me over was how clean everything felt without being sterile, if that makes sense. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Ho Chi Minh City after all, space is premium – but they’ve got good air conditioning (crucial in that humidity), decent WiFi that actually works, and surprisingly comfortable beds. The shower pressure was solid, which honestly can be hit or miss in this price range. I stayed during the rainy season and never had any issues with dampness or that musty smell you sometimes get in older buildings. The breakfast spread was simple but fresh, with a nice mix of Vietnamese and Western options – their Vietnamese coffee was strong enough to wake the dead, which is exactly how I like it. Sure, it’s not luxury, but for what you pay, especially considering that 8.2 rating reflects real guest experiences, Camila Airport Hotel delivers exactly what a smart traveler needs: a clean, comfortable base that doesn’t feel like you’re compromising just because you wanted to save some money for actual experiences in the city.
