BLUE DIAMOND 8B Hotel & Spa – HCM
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into BLUE DIAMOND 8B Hotel & Spa – HCM, I wasn’t expecting much from the name alone. But this four-star spot actually surprised me in ways I didn’t see coming. The lobby hits you with this unexpected blend of contemporary Vietnamese design and modern spa vibes, and you know what? It works. The marble floors have this subtle warmth to them, and there’s always this faint scent of lemongrass floating around that immediately puts you at ease.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to create these little pockets of calm throughout the property. I mean, Ho Chi Minh City can be absolutely relentless with the motorbike symphony and street energy, but somehow they’ve designed the spa areas to feel like you’re in a completely different world. The treatment rooms – and I actually tried their signature Vietnamese massage – have these thick walls that just swallow up the city noise. The therapists know their stuff too, not just going through the motions like at some hotel spas. During my stay, I noticed they use locally sourced oils that smell incredible, sort of like a mix of jasmine and something earthier I couldn’t quite place.
The rooms themselves are solid, nothing groundbreaking but definitely comfortable with good air conditioning (crucial in this climate, trust me). The bathrooms have these rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure – something you can’t always count on. I stayed on the seventh floor and honestly, the city views at night are pretty spectacular, especially if you can snag a room facing east. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, though the English can be hit or miss depending on who you’re talking to. Check-in was smooth, and they stored my luggage without any hassle when I arrived early. One thing I appreciated – they don’t blast music in the common areas like some places do, so you can actually have a conversation in the lobby. The breakfast spread is decent too, good pho and fresh tropical fruit, though it gets pretty busy around 8 AM when tour groups roll through. Overall, it’s one of those places that delivers on what it promises without trying to be something it’s not.
