AT-HOME RIVER GATE Apartment near Ben Thanh Market
Honestly, when I first walked into AT-HOME RIVER GATE Apartment near Ben Thanh Market, I wasn’t expecting much – the building on Bến Vân Đồn street looked pretty standard from the outside. But you know what? Sometimes the best places surprise you, and this four-star apartment setup totally did that for me.
The location is actually brilliant if you know Ho Chi Minh City at all. Sure, you’re in District 4, which some people write off as “not the center,” but I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk to the Ben Thanh Market area via the Nguyen Tat Thanh bridge – and without all the tourist chaos right outside your door. I loved being able to duck back to the apartment when the midday heat got unbearable (and trust me, it will), then head back out refreshed for evening street food runs. The riverfront location means you get these nice breezes in the evening, which is something you definitely don’t get in the packed District 1 hotels.
What really sold me on this place was how it actually feels like an apartment, not some sterile hotel room. The kitchen is properly equipped – I’m talking full-size fridge, decent cooktop, even proper plates and glasses. After weeks of eating out in Vietnam, being able to grab fresh ingredients from the morning market and cook something simple was honestly a relief. The Wi-Fi is solid (worked perfectly for video calls back home), and there’s this nice workspace setup if you need to get things done. The bathroom has a proper shower with good water pressure, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how many places get this wrong. I will say the soundproofing isn’t perfect – you’ll hear some street noise during busy hours, but it’s Ho Chi Minh City, so that kind of comes with the territory. By 10 PM things quiet down considerably.
The building itself feels secure and well-maintained, with keycard access and a decent elevator. Check-in was surprisingly smooth – they met me at the lobby and walked me through everything, including how to work the AC (which, let’s be real, you’ll be running constantly). The staff speaks good English and actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give useful recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this incredible bánh mì place about two blocks away that I never would have found otherwise.
What I really appreciated was having space to spread out and establish a routine. The apartment sleeps four comfortably, so it’s perfect if you’re traveling with friends or family and want somewhere you can actually hang out together without sitting on beds. The balcony overlooks the river, and while it’s not the most scenic view in the world, watching the evening boat traffic with a cold Saigon beer was pretty perfect after long days exploring the city. For the price point and that 9.3 rating, it makes complete sense – you’re getting way more space and amenities than a traditional hotel room, plus that local neighborhood feel that makes you understand how the city actually works.
Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City booking should be done early, especially during peak tourist season when the city hosts internationally celebrated cultural events and festivals in District 1 and other iconic locations.
You need to let the property know what time you'll be arriving in advance.
