Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Tumy Homestay feels more like visiting a friend’s place than checking into a typical hotel — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. This three-star gem sits right in the heart of District 1’s backpacker quarter, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s just another budget crash pad. The family running this place has created something genuinely warm and welcoming, where you’ll actually want to hang out in the common areas instead of hiding in your room.

Location & Neighborhood

You know what’s brilliant about staying on Cống Quỳnh? You’re literally a two-minute walk from all the action on Bui Vien Street, but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night. I mean, Ho Chi Minh City never really sleeps, but this spot gives you the best of both worlds. During the day, you can grab amazing bánh mì from the cart right outside, and by evening, you’re steps away from rooftop bars and street food that’ll blow your mind. The location really is top-notch — couples seem to love it here, probably because it’s romantic enough for evening strolls but still has that authentic local vibe.

The Space

The rooms are clean and comfortable without trying to be something they’re not. Each one has good air conditioning (trust me, you’ll need it), decent WiFi, and those little touches that show someone actually cares — like proper reading lights and enough outlets for all your devices. The shared spaces are where this place really shines though. There’s a cozy common area where travelers naturally end up chatting, and the staff genuinely seems interested in helping you discover the real Ho Chi Minh City, not just the tourist version.

What Makes It Special

Here’s the thing about Tumy Homestay — it’s run by people who understand what travelers actually want. They’ll help you figure out the best way to get to the Cu Chi Tunnels without getting ripped off, or point you toward that incredible phở place that locals actually eat at (it’s about a five-minute walk away, and there’s no English menu, but it’s worth it). The family atmosphere isn’t forced or fake; it just happens naturally when you have hosts who care about their guests’ experiences. Plus, there’s parking available if you’re brave enough to rent a motorbike — though honestly, walking and using Grab might be your sanest option in this neighborhood.

Why Guests Love It

Recent guests keep raving about this place, and after staying here, I totally get why. It’s that rare combination of great location, fair pricing, and genuine hospitality that’s getting harder to find as the city becomes more touristy. You’re not paying for fancy amenities you don’t need — instead, you’re getting exactly what matters: a comfortable base in an unbeatable location with hosts who’ll make your stay memorable for all the right reasons. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway or just want to experience the real energy of District 1, this homestay delivers without any pretense.

It’s really good value for room that big in the center of Saigon. Even though the staff are not present on site, they are responsive and helpful on the phone.

The location is great, right in the middle of everything. 5 minutes to the Walking Street, 5 minutes to the main road. Nice view of the city from the rooftop terrace. The room was large and clean. The best of all was Chanie, the young lady in charge of the place. Very nice, friendly and professional, took her time showing me the place and telling me the good places to visit around. A big thanks to her!

To be honest, the room didn’t feel comfortable/cozy at all. But great location! The hotel is very close to the bui vien walking street (loud music) but you don’t hear any of it in the room as the hotel is on a side street. Restaurants close by. The staff is friendly but doesn‘t really speak english. If you need anything, you can reach them anytime by chat.

Room had NO window like prison cell. room has no ketle, no cups, bedside table. Taxi can not arrive at the hostel by super narrow streets and you have carry a suitcase by dearty broken street to main road. Grandma's creepy furniture

The owners are nice people who are ready to help if you have problems. They provided us with amenities per our request. We're very thankful to Chanie. Our next stop was Danang and the bus company suddenly changed our pick up point. They tried to inform us about it via phone but we couldn't understand Vietnamese. Chanie talked with the company and translated everything. As a result we haven't lost money. Thank you very much! Tummy Homestay has a great location - the interesting street with many authentic cafes.
