Tra My Hotel – SaiGon Center

Look, I’ll be honest with you – when I first walked into Tra My Hotel – SaiGon Center, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place. But you know what? Sometimes these smaller hotels in the heart of Saigon surprise you in ways the big chains never do. The lobby’s got this lived-in feel that’s actually pretty welcoming, and the staff behind the front desk genuinely seemed happy to see me roll up with my dusty backpack after a long flight.

What really won me over was the location – I mean, you’re right in the thick of things without being stuck on some touristy strip where everything costs twice as much. I could walk to Ben Thanh Market in about ten minutes, and there’s this incredible pho place just around the corner that I stumbled across on my second morning (honestly, best bowl I had in the entire city). The rooms are clean and functional – nothing fancy, but the AC works like a dream, which is basically all that matters when you’re dealing with Saigon’s humidity. I actually appreciated that they kept things simple rather than trying to be something they’re not. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the bathroom had decent water pressure, though the shower’s one of those handheld deals if that bothers you.

The thing about this place is that it feels authentically Vietnamese rather than like some sanitized international hotel experience. Sure, the hallways could use a fresh coat of paint, and sometimes you can hear motorbikes from the street in the early morning, but that’s just part of being in the real Saigon, you know? The breakfast spread was modest but tasty – fresh fruit, Vietnamese coffee that’ll wake you up properly, and some Western options if you need them. I ended up chatting with other travelers in the small dining area most mornings, which doesn’t always happen at bigger places where everyone’s rushing around. The neighborhood comes alive at night with street food vendors and locals hanging out, so you get this genuine slice of city life right outside your door. For the price point, especially considering you’re staying central rather than way out in some business district, it’s actually solid value. I’d stay here again, particularly if I wanted to feel more connected to the city rather than insulated from it.
