The Second Homes – MASTERI THAO DIEN
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about The Second Homes – MASTERI THAO DIEN, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a serviced apartment setup in Ho Chi Minh City. But this four-star property in the Thao Dien area completely changed my mind about extended-stay accommodations. You know what struck me immediately? The building itself feels more like a luxury residential complex than a typical hotel, which actually makes perfect sense given the name.
The location in District 2 is honestly brilliant if you want that expat neighborhood vibe without being stuck in the tourist chaos of District 1. Thao Dien has this interesting mix of local Vietnamese life and international residents – you’ll find incredible street food stalls right next to trendy cafes that wouldn’t look out of place in Melbourne or San Francisco. I mean, you can grab a proper flat white in the morning and still get amazing banh mi for like 20,000 dong just around the corner. The apartments themselves are spacious (and I mean actually spacious, not hotel-brochure spacious), with full kitchens that you’ll actually want to use. The views from the higher floors look out over the Saigon River, and during sunset, well… let’s just say I spent way too many evenings on that balcony with a beer.
What really sets this place apart is how it feels lived-in rather than sterile. The staff genuinely seems to care about making longer stays comfortable – they’ll help you figure out grocery delivery, recommend the best local markets, that sort of thing. The building amenities are solid too, though the pool can get pretty busy on weekends when the weather’s nice. One thing to note: the area can be a bit tricky to navigate if you’re not familiar with District 2’s layout, and grab cars sometimes have trouble finding the exact entrance (pro tip: save the Vietnamese address in your phone). The nearby Metro station makes getting into the city center pretty straightforward, though honestly, I found myself wanting to stay in the neighborhood more often than not. There’s something about Thao Dien that just works – it’s got this relaxed, almost village-like feel despite being part of this massive, bustling city. If you’re planning a longer stay in Ho Chi Minh City, or even just want to experience what living here might actually feel like rather than just passing through, this place nails that balance between comfort and authenticity.
