Honestly, when I first walked into The Reverie Saigon, I thought I’d accidentally wandered into some European palace – the lobby is absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way, with all this Italian marble and crystal chandeliers that somehow don’t feel stuffy. You know what struck me most? The staff actually remembers your name after one conversation, which is rare for a five-star property this size.
The location is brilliant if you know Ho Chi Minh City at all – you’re right in District 1 on Nguyen Hue, which means you can walk to everything that matters. I mean, Ben Thanh Market is literally a five-minute stroll, and you’re close enough to the Opera House that you’ll hear the evening performances if you keep your windows open (the soundproofing is excellent though, so don’t worry about street noise). What I love is that you can grab incredible pho from street vendors right outside, then come back to your room that probably costs more per night than most people’s monthly rent – there’s something delightfully absurd about that contrast.
The rooms are where this place really shows off. I stayed on the 18th floor and the views over the Saigon River were spectacular, especially at sunset when the whole city lights up. The bathrooms are massive – like, bigger than some hotel rooms I’ve stayed in – with these deep soaking tubs that actually fit tall people. Small detail, but the water pressure is fantastic, which you can’t take for granted in Vietnam. The beds are ridiculously comfortable too, though I’ll warn you that the pillows are quite firm if you prefer something softer. Room service is available 24/7 and they don’t charge you crazy markups like most luxury hotels do. Actually, their Vietnamese coffee through room service is better than what you’ll get at half the cafes in the city.
What sets this place apart from other luxury hotels in the area – and trust me, there are plenty – is how they blend the opulence with genuine Vietnamese hospitality. The concierge team knows their stuff beyond the typical tourist traps. They sent me to this incredible family-run restaurant in District 3 that I never would have found otherwise. The spa is worth mentioning too, especially if you’ve been walking around the city all day in the heat – their traditional Vietnamese treatments are authentic, not some watered-down resort version.
The breakfast buffet is extensive but can get crowded around 8:30 AM when all the business travelers descend, so either go early or wait until after 9:30. One thing that impressed me was how they handle the rainy season – the covered entrance and efficient valet parking mean you’re never standing around getting soaked, which sounds minor until you’re dealing with those sudden Saigon downpours. With a 9.3 rating, you’d expect perfection, and while it’s close, the elevator wait times during peak hours can test your patience. But honestly, for the location, the service, and those incredible views, it’s hard to imagine staying anywhere else when you want to experience Ho Chi Minh City from a position of absolute comfort.
