Thành Vinh Hotel & Apartment
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Thành Vinh Hotel & Apartment on Song Hành road, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. District 9 isn’t exactly where most tourists end up in Ho Chi Minh City, but that actually turned out to be one of its biggest advantages. You’re far enough from the chaos of District 1 to actually get some sleep, but still connected enough that grabbing a taxi or Grab to the city center doesn’t break the bank.
This four-star place has that hybrid hotel-apartment vibe going on, which means some rooms come with little kitchenettes – super handy if you’re staying more than a few days or just tired of eating out every meal. The lobby’s got this clean, modern feel without being sterile, and the staff actually seemed genuinely happy to see guests rather than just going through the motions. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night. I mean, you’re still in Saigon so there’s always some hum of motorbikes in the distance, but compared to staying downtown where the street noise never stops, this felt like a sanctuary. The Xa Lộ Hà Nội highway is right there, which sounds terrible but honestly makes getting around the city way easier than I expected.
The rooms themselves are solid – nothing that’ll blow your mind, but everything works properly, which isn’t always a given in this price range. Air conditioning that actually cools the room, hot water that shows up when you turn the tap, wifi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes. You know what I really appreciated though? The windows actually open. Sounds silly, but after staying in sealed hotel boxes, being able to let in some fresh air felt like a luxury. The apartment-style units are where this place really shines – having counter space and a fridge means you can stock up on those amazing Vietnamese fruits from the local markets instead of paying hotel minibar prices. There’s a decent-sized pool that’s usually pretty empty during weekday mornings, and the gym equipment is basic but functional if you need to work off all that bánh mì and phở. Parking was never an issue either, which anyone who’s driven in Ho Chi Minh City will tell you is basically a miracle. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, but sometimes you just want a comfortable, well-run place where things work as advertised – and Thành Vinh delivers on that front without the premium price tag of the fancy hotels in the tourist districts.
