Thanh Long Hotel – Apartment

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Thanh Long Hotel – Apartment on Bạch Đằng street, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from an apartment-style hotel in Tan Binh district. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about staying in Tan Binh is that you’re getting the real Ho Chi Minh City experience without the tourist circus of District 1. The four-star property sits in this wonderfully authentic neighborhood where you’ll hear motorbikes humming by at all hours (though honestly, the rooms are well-insulated so it’s more of a gentle city soundtrack than actual noise). What I loved most was how the apartment setup gives you actual space to breathe – there’s a proper kitchenette that I ended up using way more than I thought I would, especially after discovering the incredible bánh mì lady just two blocks down who sells out by 9 AM. The staff here actually knows the neighborhood, too, which made all the difference when I was trying to find decent coffee that wasn’t tourist prices.

The rooms themselves have this lived-in comfort that you don’t get at those sterile international chains. I mean, everything’s clean and modern, don’t get me wrong, but there’s personality here. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the air conditioning works like a dream – crucial during those sweltering afternoons when the humidity hits you like a wall. What really sold me, though, was the practicality of it all. Having a washing machine in the room after two weeks of travel? Game changer. Plus, the location puts you about fifteen minutes from the airport, which sounds boring but is actually brilliant when you’re dealing with early flights or just want to avoid the chaos of the city center. The nearby streets have some fantastic local restaurants that clearly cater to Vietnamese families rather than backpackers, and honestly, that’s where you’ll find the best phở anyway. I ended up extending my stay an extra two nights just because I wasn’t ready to leave this little pocket of authentic city life – sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that don’t scream “tourist destination” from the rooftops.
