Salute Saigon Hotel and Spa
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Salute Saigon Hotel and Spa, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. The building sits on Lý Tự Trọng street, which honestly looks like any other busy District 1 thoroughfare, but man, was I wrong about this place. The lobby actually made me do a double-take with its sleek marble and these gorgeous Vietnamese art pieces that don’t feel touristy at all. You know what really struck me? The staff remembered my name from day two onward, which is pretty rare for a four-star property in Ho Chi Minh City where turnover tends to be high.
The location is actually perfect if you know the area – you’re literally a three-minute walk from Ben Thanh Market (though honestly, skip the tourist traps there and head to the food stalls around back). What I loved is that you can walk to the Saigon Opera House in about five minutes, and the rooftop bars on Nguyen Hue are close enough that you’ll hear the weekend crowds but far enough that it won’t keep you up. The rooms themselves are way more spacious than typical Saigon hotels – I mean, you can actually open your suitcase without hitting the bed, which is saying something. The spa downstairs is where this place really shines though. I’m usually skeptical of hotel spas, but their traditional Vietnamese massage therapists know what they’re doing, and after walking around District 1’s chaotic streets all day, that hot stone treatment felt like a small miracle.
Here’s the thing that really sets this place apart – the breakfast spread includes proper pho (not the watered-down hotel version), fresh banh mi ingredients, and they’ll make you Vietnamese coffee that rivals the street vendors outside. The pool area on the seventh floor gets morning sun but stays shaded by early afternoon, which is perfect timing since Ho Chi Minh City heat gets brutal after 2 PM. I noticed they keep the water temperature just right year-round, and there’s actually enough space to swim laps if that’s your thing. The only minor complaint? The elevators can be slow during peak hours, but honestly, with a 9.5 rating from guests, they’re clearly doing something right. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between luxury and authenticity in the heart of the city – without paying Dong Khoi street prices – this place delivers in ways that’ll surprise you.
