I’ll be honest, I walked past S79 My My Hotel 2 twice before realizing I’d found my place for the night – the entrance is tucked along Sư Vạn Hạnh Street in a way that feels almost deliberately understated. But you know what? That turned out to be part of its charm. This four-star spot sits right in District 10, which I’ve got to say is one of those areas that feels authentically local without being touristy at all. You’re genuinely in the heart of where people actually live and work in Ho Chi Minh City, not in some sanitized hotel bubble.
The thing that struck me most was how they’ve managed to create this surprisingly quiet retreat despite being on a fairly busy street. My room faced inward toward what I’d call a small courtyard area, and honestly, I slept better there than I had at some much pricier places in District 1. The staff – and this is important if you’re not confident with Vietnamese – actually took time to explain the neighborhood to me. They drew little maps showing where to catch the best street food (there’s this incredible bánh mì cart about two blocks down that opens at 6 AM), and they knew which direction to point me toward the nearest Circle K when I needed to grab water at weird hours. The rooms themselves feel fresh, like they’ve been recently updated, with this clean, modern aesthetic that doesn’t try too hard to be Instagram-worthy but still photographs well if that’s your thing.
What really sold me on the place, though, was the morning routine. I mean, breakfast was solid – nothing revolutionary but properly executed Vietnamese coffee and fresh fruit that actually tasted like it was picked recently. But more than that, stepping out in the early morning to explore District 10 felt like I was seeing a side of the city that most travelers completely miss. You’ve got locals doing tai chi in the small parks, motorbikes weaving through with fresh vegetables heading to market, and this general sense that you’re somewhere real rather than somewhere designed for visitors. The hotel location puts you maybe fifteen minutes by Grab from the main tourist areas when you want them, but far enough away that you can decompress from all that energy. Parking situation is actually manageable if you’re renting a motorbike, which I’d recommend – the staff can point you toward a secure spot nearby. Look, it’s not going to win design awards or show up in luxury travel magazines, but sometimes you just want a place that gets the basics absolutely right while giving you access to the parts of a city that feel genuine.
