Royal State – The Ascentia Phu My Hung
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Royal State – The Ascentia Phu My Hung, I wasn’t sure what to expect from another hotel in this part of Ho Chi Minh City. But you know what? This four-star place completely caught me off guard in the best possible way.
The thing about Phu My Hung is that it’s this sort of planned district that feels almost surreal compared to the chaos of central Ho Chi Minh City – wider streets, more green space, actually functional traffic patterns. The Royal State sits right in the heart of this area, and honestly, it feels like you’re staying in a completely different city. I mean, you can actually hear birds in the morning instead of just motorbikes, which is saying something for Vietnam. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe without being sterile – lots of marble and glass, but they’ve managed to keep it warm somehow. Check-in was surprisingly smooth; the staff spoke excellent English and actually seemed to care about making sure I understood the neighborhood layout.
What really impressed me was how they’ve thought about the details that matter when you’re actually living in a hotel room for a few days. The rooms are spacious by Vietnamese standards – you’re not bumping into furniture every time you move around. The bathroom actually has decent water pressure (trust me, this isn’t always a given), and the air conditioning is quiet enough that you won’t lose sleep over it. I stayed on the seventh floor and had this great view of the surrounding district, watching the mix of modern apartments and the occasional traditional Vietnamese house tucked between newer buildings. The Wi-Fi worked everywhere I tried it, which honestly made my remote work days so much easier than I expected. One small thing that bugged me – the breakfast buffet was a bit limited if you’re not into Asian breakfast options, though the pho they served was actually quite good. The pool area is decent sized and never felt overcrowded, probably because most tourists don’t venture out to this district. You’re about twenty minutes from the main tourist areas by taxi, but that distance actually works in your favor – you get a much more authentic sense of how modern Vietnamese families live, especially if you walk around the nearby Crescent Mall area in the evenings. The hotel’s location means you’re close to some genuinely good local restaurants that haven’t been discovered by every travel blogger yet. I found this amazing bun bo hue place just two blocks away that I never would have known about if I’d stayed in District 1.
Look, if you’re the type of traveler who needs to be in the absolute center of everything, this might not be your spot. But if you want to experience a different side of the city while still having access to proper amenities and genuinely helpful service – plus that 9.7 rating isn’t just for show – the Royal State delivers on its promise. It’s one of those places that makes you feel like you’ve found something the guidebooks haven’t quite caught up to yet.
