First Impressions
Walking up to the Queen Ann Hotel on Bui Thi Xuan Street, you immediately get that feeling of being right in the thick of things. This three-star property sits smack in the middle of District 1, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building itself has that classic Vietnamese hotel charm — nothing too flashy, but clean and welcoming with a lobby that’s actually quite stylish for what you’re paying.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about staying here — you’re literally in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, which means everything is walkable. Ben Thanh Market is maybe a 10-minute stroll, and you can easily wander over to the Opera House or Notre Dame Cathedral without breaking a sweat. The street itself is busy (this is Saigon, after all), but it’s that good kind of busy where you feel connected to the city’s energy. Couples seem to really get this — they’ve rated the location 9.2, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being able to step out and immediately be part of the urban adventure.
The Room Experience
My room was on the fourth floor, and while it wasn’t huge, it had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The air conditioning works well — crucial in this climate — and the bed was surprisingly comfortable. What struck me was how clean everything felt, from the bathroom to the small work desk by the window. You know what’s nice? The windows actually open, so you can hear the city sounds if you want that authentic Saigon experience, or keep them closed for peace and quiet.
Daily Life at the Hotel
The staff here really knows their stuff about the neighborhood, which makes a difference when you’re trying to figure out where to eat or how to avoid tourist traps. Breakfast isn’t included in all rates, but there’s a decent restaurant on the ground floor that serves both Vietnamese and Western options. I actually ended up eating there a couple of times because it was convenient and the pho was legitimately good. The wifi works well throughout the building, and there’s a small business center if you need to print anything.
Why Guests Love It
With an 8.3 rating, this place clearly does something right, and I think it comes down to getting the basics perfect without trying to be something it’s not. You’re paying for a solid, well-located base to explore the city, not a resort experience. The value proposition is honest — decent rooms, great location, helpful staff, and you’re saving money that you can spend on amazing street food and experiences around the city. For couples especially, being able to walk everywhere together and then come back to a comfortable, quiet room seems to hit the sweet spot.
