Private Homestay District 1, Tan Ðinh Ward, HCM City
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Private Homestay District 1, Tan Ðinh Ward, HCM City, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a homestay in one of the busiest districts in the city. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that surprise you, and this three-star place really delivered in ways I didn’t anticipate.
What struck me right away was how the owners managed to create this little bubble of calm right in the heart of District 1. I mean, you’re literally minutes from all the chaos of Nguyen Hue Walking Street and the tourist madness, but once you step inside, there’s this genuine homey feeling that most hotels just can’t replicate. The family running it actually lives there – not in some corporate way, but like, you’ll smell Vietnamese coffee brewing in the morning and hear normal household sounds that somehow make the whole experience feel more authentic. The rooms aren’t fancy by any stretch, but they’re clean and thoughtfully arranged, and honestly, after spending days wandering around Ho Chi Minh City’s sweltering streets, having a space that feels like someone’s actual home is pretty refreshing.
Being in Tan Ðinh Ward puts you in this interesting spot where you’re close enough to walk to Ben Thanh Market (though prepare for the crowds), but you’re also near some of the local coffee shops and street food stalls that tourists usually miss. I discovered this incredible banh mi place just two blocks away that I never would’ve found staying at one of those big international hotels. The owners gave me directions using local landmarks – you know, “turn left at the blue building with the motorbikes parked outside” – which sounds confusing but actually works perfectly once you get the hang of navigating Vietnamese-style. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re renting a motorbike, but there’s usually space on the street, and the noise level is surprisingly manageable for District 1 (though mornings do start early with the typical city sounds). What really sets this place apart is that 9.3 rating makes total sense when you experience the genuine hospitality – these aren’t staff members going through the motions, they’re people who actually care about whether you find that good pho place or figure out the bus system. It’s the kind of stay that reminds you why you travel in the first place.
