Prague Hotel
First Impressions
Walking into Prague Hotel on Pham Ngu Lao Street, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place in the backpacker district. But you know what? This little gem surprised me. The lobby’s clean and modern without trying too hard, and the staff actually seemed happy to see guests — not something you always get in this price range. It’s tucked right into the heart of the action, which means you’re literally steps away from everything that makes District 1 tick.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying on Pham Ngu Lao — you’re in Ho Chi Minh City’s backpacker central, but that’s actually perfect for exploring. I mean, Ben Thanh Market is a quick walk away, and you can easily grab a taxi or motorbike to the War Remnants Museum or Reunification Palace. The street itself buzzes with energy day and night, packed with street food vendors, massage parlors, and those tiny plastic chair eateries where locals actually eat. Couples seem to love wandering around here together — there’s something romantic about getting lost in the organized chaos of it all.
The Room
My room was smaller than I expected, but honestly, who spends much time inside when you’re in Saigon? The air conditioning worked well (crucial in that humidity), and the bed was comfortable enough for a good night’s sleep after long days of exploring. The bathroom was compact but functional — hot water, decent water pressure, and everything stayed reasonably clean. There’s not much in terms of fancy amenities, but you get what you need: a safe place to crash with reliable wifi and a window that actually opens.
Breakfast & Dining
The buffet breakfast was actually better than I anticipated for a place in this category. Nothing fancy — think Vietnamese pho alongside some Western options like eggs and toast. The coffee was decent (though let’s be real, you’ll want to try the street coffee anyway), and there was enough variety to fuel up before heading out. I appreciated that they kept it simple rather than trying to do too much. The restaurant area doubles as a social space where you’ll inevitably end up chatting with other travelers about where to go next.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Prague Hotel isn’t going to wow you with amenities or blow your mind with design. What it does well is give you a solid base in an unbeatable location without breaking the bank. The parking situation is handled if you’re brave enough to rent a motorbike, and the staff knows the area well enough to point you toward hidden gems. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having a quiet retreat right in the middle of all the action — you can dive into the street life whenever you want, then retreat upstairs when you need a break from the sensory overload that is District 1.
Ho Chi Minh City’s apartments offer urban accommodations with city views, perfect for families wanting to experience daily life in this culturally diverse Vietnamese metropolis.
