When I first walked into Mari Queen Hotel – Suong Nguyet Anh, I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place tucked away on a side street in District 1. But you know what? Sometimes these smaller hotels surprise you in the best ways. The lobby’s got this cozy, almost family-run feel that immediately sets it apart from the sterile chain hotels you’ll find elsewhere in Ho Chi Minh City.
What really sold me on this place was the location – and I mean the real location benefits, not just “convenient to everything.” You’re literally a five-minute walk from the chaos of Nguyen Hue Walking Street, but once you duck down Đường Sương Nguyệt Anh, it’s like the city volume gets turned way down. The street’s got this mix of local cafes and small businesses that gives you an actual slice of Saigon life, which is honestly refreshing when you’re tired of tourist traps. I spent most evenings wandering around the neighborhood, grabbing bánh mì from the corner spot (the owner remembers your order after two visits) and people-watching from the little plastic stools outside the coffee shops.
The rooms themselves are clean and well-maintained – nothing fancy, but everything works properly, which can’t always be said for hotels in this price range. The AC actually keeps up with the humidity, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, and the hot water situation is reliable. I mean, these might sound like basic things, but anyone who’s traveled through Vietnam knows these details matter. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work out – they helped me figure out the best route to the Cu Chi Tunnels and even called ahead to confirm tour times. One thing to note though: if you’re a super light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the main drag because the motorbikes start their morning symphony pretty early. But honestly, that’s just Saigon being Saigon, and you adapt pretty quickly. The breakfast spread is simple but hits the right notes – fresh tropical fruit, decent coffee, and they’ll make you eggs however you want them. For the price point and the genuine hospitality, this place delivers way more than its 7.4 rating suggests.

"Good"
Ideal for a short city break in Ho Chi Minh. My group stayed for two nights in two double rooms. Hotel in great location in District 1, located on a quiet street within a busier area. Lots of restaurant options a short walk away with a small 7 11 and circle k at the end of the road. Rooms were perfectly clean and air con was very strong. No street noise heard but could hear some noise from corridor/ next room - no issue with ear plugs. Staff were friendly.

Nicely decorated, aesthetic hotel room. The hotel is located on a relatively quiet road with a 7/11 nearby and great dining options nearby.
What could be improved: I’m not sure what the other rooms would be like and whether we had bad luck (when we booked the room it was on a deal), but the room smelled really bad. There was a strong smell coming from the bathroom, eventually we figured out it was from the toilet (probably the plumbing?). We asked if we could move rooms on two different days, but nothing was available, which is understandable. On the second day of asking, one member of staff said a repair person would come and look at it, but never did. After this, we gave up asking for any help with this as no further efforts were made in changing this for us.

"Nice hotel in a good location."
This hotel was good value for money and in a great location (15 min walk to city centre). There was lots of food and shops near the hotel too. The room was small but had all you needed for a short stay in Ho Chi Minh.
What could be improved: The drinks from downstairs in the hotel fridge were insanely expensive! Paid around £9 for two bottle drinks - avoid!

"don’t judge a book by its cover"
the location is not bad, it’s not THAT near the city centre, but it’s quiet and definitely nice to walk out not into a crowd… the hotel personnel is actually not bad..
What could be improved: similar to the rest of the reviews, the photos on booking are MUCH better than IRL. in real life, it’s so much more dated, and not the best maintained. my room also had no windows which made it very musty, and it was even located behind the bin storage area…
no room cleaning, no conditioner, and i swear i saw an animal coming out of the sink. no fridge either.
last thing.. the doors don’t lock automatically.. luckily nothing was stolen, but the card is useless. must use the key

"Comfortable room for reasonable money"
Great location – quiet, yet very close to the city center. The room was clean, nice, and comfortable. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and the Wi-Fi was fast. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

"Wonderful"
Room was lovely, clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful. Free coffees and tea in the morning in our room was a nice start to the day. The unassuming "cafe" across the road, even with no English was great for lunch.
What could be improved: It was a little bit off the beaten track but with Booking. Com, taxis were simple to book and very reasonable.

"Exceptional"
It is nice place to stay in Ho Chi Minh City. The room is really nice good natural light, the desk is comfortable if yo have to study or work. nice restaurants around, mini market close to the hotel wich is really nice.
