I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Landmark The Star City, I wasn’t expecting much from the location on Trần Trọng Kim street. It’s tucked away in Binh Thanh district, which honestly feels more residential than touristy, but you know what? That actually turned out to be one of its biggest advantages. You’re in real Ho Chi Minh City here, not some sanitized hotel bubble.
The moment I walked into the lobby, though, I realized this four-star place was punching way above its weight. The staff – and I mean this genuinely – seemed to actually care about getting things right. My check-in was smooth, they remembered my name throughout the stay, and when I mentioned I was jet-lagged, they quietly upgraded my room to a higher floor without making a big deal about it. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid four-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent bathroom with good water pressure (trust me, that matters in Vietnam), and actually functional air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a jet engine. The décor is modern without being sterile, though I’ll admit the carpet could use updating in some of the hallways.
What really won me over was the location’s practicality once you figure it out. Yeah, you’re not walking to Ben Thanh Market from here, but there’s a whole strip of incredible local restaurants within two blocks – the kind where you’re the only foreigner and the pho costs about a dollar. The hotel’s right near the Saigon River too, which means evening walks with actual decent air quality. Parking was never an issue (huge plus if you’re renting a motorbike), and getting a Grab to District 1 takes maybe 15 minutes unless it’s rush hour. The breakfast spread surprised me – not just the usual continental stuff, but proper Vietnamese options alongside it. I actually found myself looking forward to their pho bo in the mornings, which is saying something considering the street food right outside. One small thing that stuck with me: the elevators are surprisingly quiet, and you don’t hear much hallway noise even when the hotel’s full. Sometimes it’s those little details that make the difference when you’re trying to recover from a long day of exploring the city’s chaos.
