Khách Sạn Biển Sao 2 – 139 Nguyễn Văn Lượng P10 Gò Vấp
You know what? When I first stumbled across Khách Sạn Biển Sao 2 – 139 Nguyễn Văn Lượng P10 Gò Vấp, I wasn’t expecting much – honestly, the name’s a bit of a mouthful and Gò Vấp isn’t exactly where most tourists end up. But this little three-star place really surprised me in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Nguyễn Văn Lượng Street, which runs through one of those authentic Vietnamese neighborhoods where you’ll hear motorbikes buzzing by at all hours (bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper, trust me on this one).
What I actually love about this spot is how genuinely local it feels – you’re staying where real Ho Chi Minh City residents live and work, not in some sanitized tourist bubble. The morning sounds are incredible actually: street vendors calling out their wares, the clatter of coffee cups from the sidewalk cafés, kids heading to school on the back of their parents’ bikes. I mean, it’s Vietnam at its most unfiltered. The hotel itself has that clean, no-nonsense vibe you want from a solid mid-range place. The staff genuinely seemed to care about making sure I was comfortable, and honestly, their English was way better than my Vietnamese (which is basically nonexistent). Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving during daylight hours – the street numbers can be tricky to spot after dark, and Vietnamese addressing systems are… well, let’s just say Google Maps gets confused sometimes.
Getting around from here is actually pretty straightforward once you figure out the local bus routes, though most travelers will probably stick with Grab rides – they’re cheap and the drivers know the area well. I found myself walking to this fantastic little bún bò Huế place just a few blocks away that definitely doesn’t see many foreign faces, and there’s a Circle K convenience store practically next door when you need those late-night snack runs. The neighborhood comes alive in the evenings with families eating dinner on plastic stools right on the sidewalks, which gives you this amazing glimpse into everyday Vietnamese life that you just don’t get in District 1. Sure, it’s not glamorous – there are puddles when it rains and the traffic never really stops – but that’s exactly what makes it feel authentic. If you’re the type of traveler who wants Instagram-perfect everything, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to experience Ho Chi Minh City like it actually is, not how the tourism board packages it, then this little hotel offers something genuinely special. Plus, with ratings consistently hitting 8.5 out of 10, other guests clearly feel the same way I do about this place.
