Homestay Four P Phu Nhuan
You know what caught me off guard about Homestay Four P Phu Nhuan? I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the name – it sounds pretty generic, right? But this place on Phan Tây Hồ turned out to be one of those hidden gems that makes you feel like you stumbled onto something the guidebooks missed. The whole setup feels more like staying at a friend’s incredibly well-designed apartment than some sterile hotel room.
The location in Phu Nhuan district is actually brilliant if you want to experience Ho Chi Minh City without being right in the middle of the tourist madness. I mean, you’re still close enough to zip into District 1 in about fifteen minutes by grab bike, but you get this more residential vibe that lets you see how locals actually live. The street itself is surprisingly quiet – no honking motorbikes at 6 AM, which honestly shocked me given what I’d heard about the city. Walking around the neighborhood, you’ll find these little coffee shops where nobody speaks English but they make the most incredible ca phe sua da, and there’s this amazing banh mi cart that shows up around 7 AM that the homestay owner told me about.
What really sets this five-star place apart is how thoughtfully everything’s put together. The rooms have this clean, minimalist thing going on, but it’s not cold – there are these little touches like local artwork and plants that make it feel lived-in. The air conditioning actually works properly (trust me, this matters more than you think in Vietnam), and the Wi-Fi is fast enough that I could video call home without any issues. The bathroom situation is particularly good – proper hot water pressure and everything’s spotless. I stayed for four nights and housekeeping was always on point without being intrusive about it. The owner, who I think might actually be one of the “Four P” people, was incredibly helpful with recommendations but never pushy about it. She drew me this little hand-sketched map of the best pho places within walking distance, which turned out to be way more useful than anything on my phone. Honestly, the 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be fancy or over-the-top, but everything just works exactly as it should. If you’re the type who wants to experience the city like a temporary local rather than being stuck in some international hotel bubble, this is exactly what you’re looking for.
