GLENWOOD APARTMENT
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to GLENWOOD APARTMENT on Nguyen Van Huong Street, I’ll be honest — it doesn’t scream flashy from the outside. But you know what? That’s actually part of its charm. This three-star property sits quietly in Thao Dien Ward, and there’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t try too hard to impress you before you even walk through the door. The building has a clean, modern look that fits right into this expat-heavy neighborhood without being ostentatious about it.
The Thao Dien Advantage
Here’s what I really love about staying in Thao Dien — you’re in Ho Chi Minh City but it feels like a completely different world. This area is where a lot of expats live, so you’ll find international schools, Western cafes, and tree-lined streets that actually have sidewalks you can walk on. The apartment is perfectly positioned to take advantage of all this. I mean, you can grab proper coffee at one of the nearby Australian-run cafes, then hop on a motorbike taxi and be in the chaos of District 1 in about 20 minutes when you want that authentic Saigon energy.
The Space Itself
The room I stayed in was more spacious than I expected — these aren’t cramped hotel boxes. You get a proper living area, and the kitchen setup is actually functional if you want to grab groceries from the local market and cook something up. The air conditioning works well (crucial in this climate), and honestly, the whole place just feels like somewhere you could settle in for a week or more without going stir-crazy. The furnishing is simple but comfortable, and there’s enough storage space that you’re not living out of your suitcase the entire time.
Getting Around
One thing that really stood out was the free parking situation — if you’re brave enough to rent a motorbike in Vietnam, you’ll appreciate having a secure place to leave it. But even if you’re sticking to Grab rides like most tourists, the location works in your favor. The drivers actually know this area well, and you’re close enough to the main expat hangouts that you won’t be explaining directions constantly. Plus, there’s a decent local market within walking distance where you can grab fresh fruit and snacks without paying tourist prices.
Why Guests Love It
What really makes sense about this place is how it attracts couples looking for something different from the typical backpacker scene. The neighborhood has this relaxed, residential vibe that’s perfect if you want to experience Ho Chi Minh City without feeling like you’re constantly “on” as a tourist. You can have quiet mornings with coffee on your balcony, then venture out when you’re ready for adventure. The staff keeps things low-key but helpful, and the whole experience feels more like staying in a friend’s apartment than a hotel — which, given the name, is probably exactly what they’re going for.
