Collection O Nam Phuong Hoang Hau Near Lotte Mart
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Collection O Nam Phuong Hoang Hau Near Lotte Mart, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place tucked away in Binh Chanh district. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you venture outside the usual tourist zones in Ho Chi Minh City. This hotel sits on Street No 7 in the Binh Hung area, and while that might sound like you’re heading to the middle of nowhere, it’s actually pretty smart positioning – you’re close enough to the action but far enough out to escape the constant motorbike symphony that dominates District 1.
The thing that really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to nail the basics without any pretense. The rooms are clean and comfortable (I mean, genuinely comfortable, not just “decent for the price” comfortable), and honestly, the 9.1 rating makes total sense once you spend a night there. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which is refreshing when you’re used to the conveyor-belt service at bigger hotels. What I really appreciated was the proximity to Lotte Mart – and I know that sounds mundane, but when you’re staying somewhere for more than a couple nights, having a proper supermarket within walking distance is gold. You can grab everything from Vietnamese coffee to international snacks, plus there’s a decent food court if you want to eat like locals do without wandering around looking lost.
The location works particularly well if you’re planning day trips around the city but don’t want to deal with the chaos of staying right in the center. Street No 7 is quiet enough that you can actually sleep with the windows open (try doing that near Ben Thanh Market), but you’re still only about 20-30 minutes by taxi or Grab to the main tourist areas. I found myself using this place as a base camp of sorts – heading out to explore during the day, then coming back to decompress without the constant urban buzz. The neighborhood has that authentic local vibe too, with small restaurants and coffee shops where you’ll be the only foreigner, which honestly makes for some of the best travel experiences. Sure, it’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy lobbies, but sometimes what you need is just a solid, well-run hotel where everything works as it should and the price doesn’t make you wince when you check out.
