Look, I’ll be honest – when I first booked Căn hộ tại Phú Nhuận, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from a three-star apartment setup in this part of Ho Chi Minh City. But you know what? Sometimes the places that don’t oversell themselves end up being exactly what you need.
Phú Nhuận is one of those districts that feels authentically Vietnamese without being touristy – I mean, you’re right in the thick of local life here. The apartment itself sits in a neighborhood where you’ll actually hear motorbikes humming by in the morning (which, honestly, becomes oddly comforting after a day or two) and catch the smell of pho being made at the street cart downstairs. It’s not fancy, but there’s something genuine about staying somewhere that locals actually live and work around. The space is clean and functional – think modern Vietnamese apartment living rather than hotel luxury. You get a proper kitchenette, which is actually pretty great when you want to grab fresh ingredients from the local market and cook something simple, or just store those Vietnamese coffees you’ll inevitably buy too many of.
What I really appreciated was how the place felt connected to the real rhythm of Ho Chi Minh City without being overwhelming. Phú Nhuận has this perfect balance where you can walk to find authentic bánh mì spots and local coffee shops, but you’re also not dealing with the constant tourist hustle of District 1. The area gets quieter in the evenings, which means you can actually sleep without earplugs – something I definitely can’t say about some of the more central hotels I’ve stayed at. Transportation is straightforward too; you’ll find xe om drivers who know the neighborhood well, and honestly, most of them became pretty friendly once they realized I was staying for more than just a night or two. The 7.9 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but it delivers on the basics really well and gives you that authentic local experience that’s getting harder to find in the more developed parts of the city. If you’re the type of traveler who values being part of the neighborhood rather than being isolated in a tourist bubble, this spot actually works really well.

Excellent communication and instructions made self check-in very easy outside the stipulated check-in hours. Nice owner. The flat is within reasonable walking distance of the airport (though given the heat and traffic, you might be better taking a taxi - but I had no local currency, nor internet connection to use Grab.. and found it a perfectly viable walk) and is in a very clean, modern, respectable block of flats blessed with two swimming pools (closed on Mondays, I understand, so beware of that!) The apartment was great and had everything I needed (good electrical sockets, fan/aircon, all mod cons). And also some things that others, staying longer, might find very useful (kitchenette, washing machine). I appreciated the couple of small snacks and drinking water provided on arrival. There were plenty of further facilities/food outlets within walking distance of the flat - it isn't in a sterile area of the city, despite being so close to the airport, and I was for example able to walk out to a nice dinner restaurant where I could pay by card easily enough (still having no dong as flying out again the next morning). And, as generally true in Vietnam, it felt perfectly safe in this area to be walking out in the evening as an unaccompanied female.
I like the location, because i have to flight next day. The bathroom smells, the sink in the kitchen is broken, very poor cleaning. They didn't change the bed after previous client! I found a hair in my bed, not mine of cause. This is not hotel. It's an apartment. So be ready to communicate by whatsapp for all the day before (i have no time for it, when i travel). There is no opportunity to put your stuff somewhere before check in, because it's not a hotel. You need to find keys in the mailbox and then enter the room. It isn't suit me. BUT the owner was very friendly, polite and explain everything.
