An Thinh Central Hotel – Ben Thanh Market
You know what struck me first about An Thinh Central Hotel – Ben Thanh Market? The location is honestly perfect if you want to dive straight into the chaos and energy of Ho Chi Minh City. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Ben Thanh Market – close enough that you can hear the vendors calling out their prices in the early morning, but far enough down Đặng Thị Nhu that you’re not dealing with the constant motorbike traffic right outside your window.
This three-star place doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not, which I actually appreciated. The lobby’s compact but clean, with that typical Vietnamese hotel vibe – lots of marble, maybe a bit too much lighting, but the staff genuinely seem to care about helping you figure out the city. My room on the fourth floor was smaller than I expected (well, it’s District 1, so space is premium), but everything worked properly – the AC was cold enough to combat that sticky Saigon heat, hot water was consistent, and the WiFi didn’t drop out every five minutes like some places I’ve stayed. The beds are firm, which seems to be standard here, and honestly after walking around the city all day, I slept fine. One thing though – if you’re a light sleeper, pack earplugs. The city starts waking up around 5:30 AM with motorbikes and street vendors, and these windows aren’t exactly soundproof.
What really makes this place work is how it puts you right in the thick of things without the tourist hotel markup. You’re walking distance from Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, the Saigon Opera House, and all those rooftop bars everyone talks about. But more importantly, you’re also close to the real stuff – there’s a fantastic pho place just around the corner that locals actually eat at (not the touristy one by the market entrance), and you can grab fresh fruit and coffee for basically nothing. The hotel staff gave me better restaurant recommendations than any guidebook I read. Check-in was smooth, they stored my luggage without hassle when I arrived early, and they helped me figure out the Grab app situation, which honestly saved me from getting ripped off by taxi drivers. It’s not going to win any design awards, and the breakfast is pretty basic Vietnamese fare, but for the price point and location, it delivers exactly what you need – a clean, safe base to explore one of the most vibrant cities in Southeast Asia.
You need to let the property know what time you'll be arriving in advance.
