I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Amory Hotel Ben Thanh, I wasn’t expecting much from another four-star place in District 1. But you know what? This spot actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this warm, contemporary vibe that feels authentically Vietnamese without trying too hard, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see guests rather than just going through the motions.

What really won me over was the location on Lê Lai street. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Ben Thanh Market – and I’m talking about the kind of walk where you can smell the pho and hear the motorbike engines revving before you even step outside. But here’s the thing most hotels in this area get wrong: despite being so close to all that chaos, the rooms are surprisingly quiet. They’ve done something right with the soundproofing because I actually slept through the night, which is saying something in Ho Chi Minh City. The rooms themselves are clean and modern without being sterile – there’s local artwork on the walls and the bathrooms have those rainfall showers that actually work properly (you’d be amazed how rare that is).

The breakfast situation is solid too, though nothing revolutionary. They do a decent mix of Western and Vietnamese options, and honestly, their pho was better than some street stalls I’ve tried. The rooftop area gives you a pretty good view of the district’s organized madness, perfect for that golden hour drink after spending the day getting lost in the narrow alleys nearby. Staff-wise, the front desk folks speak excellent English and actually know their neighborhood – they pointed me toward this incredible bánh mì spot on Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai that I never would have found otherwise. The only minor gripe I had was the elevator situation during busy hours (there’s only two), but really, that’s a small price to pay when you’re staying somewhere that gets both the comfort and location equation right. For the price point and that unbeatable proximity to everything you want to explore in District 1, this place delivers without any pretense.
